Particle Analysis Using AMICS

Workshop at Chalmers, October 31st, 2025

If you couldn’t join us for the AMICS workshop in Gothenburg, here’s a quick look at what you missed — and why participants left inspired by what’s possible in automated particle analysis.

From Manual Workflows to Automated Discovery

Bruker’s Chi Ly demonstrated how AMICS transforms scanning electron microscopy (SEM) into a high-throughput, automated data engine. The philosophy is simple but powerful: analyze more samples with less manual effort to achieve greater statistical confidence

Live Demonstrations and Real-World Examples

Attendees saw how AMICS standardizes and automates everything from image acquisition and focusing to spectral classification and advanced filtering. The “Spectrum Tree” tool impressed many — it enables intelligent spectral clustering for identifying subtle material variations, even in complex or contaminated samples.

Applications shared by participants included cast irons, oxides, additive manufacturing, and corrosion — all showing how AMICS adapts seamlessly across materials and industries.

Smarter Data, Better Insights

The new, license-free reporting tool was a highlight, offering Python integration, dashboard creation, and AI-based particle segmentation. Attendees learned how to turn vast datasets into clear, visual insights — and how future versions will integrate optical and X-ray data for multimodal analysis.

Why It Matters

This session made clear that automated SEM analysis isn’t just faster — it changes how you *think* about materials. Instead of analyzing one or two samples, you can study hundreds, build reproducible workflows, and extract more knowledge from your data than ever before.
